The aim of this thesis is to examine the process of language acquisition in children. After outlining a theorical framework of the main approaches to the study of language acquisition, it presents and comments the universal stages of language development, starting from the very first auditory perceptions in the prenatal stage, through to near-complete syntactic mastery in pre-school age. The focus then shifts to an analysis of language acquisition in German and Italian-speaking children: first, the respective stages of acquisition are summarized, before moving on to a comparison of the typological features and differences that characterize the development pathways of the two linguistic systems. The second part of the thesis presents an interlinear translation of 76 children’s dialogues selected from the corpus “Gespräche im Kindergarten”, which reflect the authentic language of children aged between three and six years.
Riassunto (Italiano)
Il presente elaborato prende in esame il processo di acquisizione linguistica nel bambino. Dopo aver delineato un quadro teorico dei principali approcci circa lo studio dell’acquisizione linguistica, vengono presentate e approfondite le varie tappe di carattere universale dello sviluppo del linguaggio, partendo dalle prime percezioni uditive in ambiente uterino, sino alla quasi completa padronanza della sintassi nel bambino in età prescolare. Successivamente, il focus si sposta sull’analisi dell’acquisizione linguistica nel bambino tedescofono e italofono: dapprima vengono illustrate le rispettive fasi acquisizionali, per poi giungere a un confronto delle specificità e delle divergenze tipologiche che caratterizzano i percorsi di sviluppo dei due sistemi linguistici. La seconda parte dell’elaborato presenta la traduzione interlineare di 76 dialoghi infantili scelti dal corpus “Gespräche im Kindergarten”, i quali riflettono il linguaggio autentico infantile nell’età compresa tra i tre e i sei anni.
