This study offers a systematic investigation of all the texts that can, to date, be attributed with certainty to Aristotle’s lost Eudemus. The fragments are examined from a philological perspective, that is, with attention to their context of transmission, their textual features, and the documentary reliability of the information they preserve. Once this aspect has been thoroughly explored, a substantial portion of the study is devoted to the exegesis of the authenticated texts. Clarifying the meaning of passages transmitted indirectly—often strongly influenced by their respective citation contexts—makes it possible to define more precisely the literary and historical-philosophical value of these remnants and, ultimately, to offer an attempt at a reconstruction of the work.

Questo lavoro propone un’indagine sistematica su tutti i testi ad oggi riferibili con certezza al perduto Eudemo di Aristotele. I frammenti sono studiati dal punto di vista filologico, in considerazione cioè del loro contesto di trasmissione, delle loro caratteristiche testuali e della qualità documentaria delle informazioni che preservano. Approfondito questo aspetto, vasta parte dello studio è dedicata all’esegesi dei testi così autenticati. La chiarificazione del significato di brani indirettamente tràditi, spesso fortemente influenzati dal rispettivo contesto citazionale, consente di precisare i valori letterari e storico-filosofici delle reliquie per offrire, infine, un tentativo di ricostruzione dell’opera.
