Riassunto
This thesis aims to show that it is possible to improve security for over-the-air update functionalities in an automotive scenario through the use of a Attribute-Based Encryption, which grants confidentiality to the firmware/software update Over The Air (OTA). This work proves that ABE is seamlessly integrable into the state of the art solutions regarding OTA update since its overhead in terms of computational time and its storage is negligible w.r.t. the other overheads introduced by the OTA process, also providing that security can be enhanced with a minimum cost. Then, a C programming language implementation of SEA-BREW (Scalable and Efficient Abe with Broadcast REvocation for Wireless networks), an efficient ABE keys revocation scheme, is presented and evaluated when integrated in the OTA process. SEA-BREW requires negligible computational operations, memory occupation and messages exchanges between parties, thus solving annoying and burdensome tasks that parties in ABE cryptosystems must attain when naive key revocation schemes are adopted. Finally, some technique of digital signature schemes resistant to quantum attacks are tested and proved to be efficient and therefore easily integrable in the OTA environment, thus enabling authentication and integrity even against a quantum attack.
