La tesi si compone di un'introduzione e, a seguire, cinque capitoli: il primo presenta la biografia e la produzione letteraria della scrittrice indiana Anita Desai, il secondo è uno studio sul femminismo in india e sulla condizione della donna in India, mentre il terzo prende in esame il romanzo d’esordio di Anita Desai, Cry, the Peacock, con un focus particolare sulla sensibilità della protagonista Maya. Il quarto capitolo, invece, è una sezione interamente dedicata alla traduzione di una parte del romanzo Cry, the Peacock, e, in ultimo, il capitolo dedicato al commento alla traduzione in cui sono esposte le strategie traduttive adottate ed eventuali problematiche emerse durante la traduzione. A chiusura di questo lavoro vi è una conclusione, quindi un indice e una bibliografia.
The thesis is divided into five chapters. First of all there is an introduction, then the first chapter presents the biography and the literary production of the Indian writer Anita Desai, the second chapter is a study on feminism in India with a special focus on the predicament of women in India, while the third chapter examines Anita Desai's first novel, Cry, the Peacock, with an emphasis on the sensibility of the protagonist Maya. The fourth chapter, on the other hand, is entirely dedicated to the translation of five chapters of the novel, followed by chapter five, a textual analysis of the translation containing the translation strategies adopted. Finally a conclusion, an index and bibliography.
