Riassunto (Inglese)
This thesis focuses on the commissioning of the data acquisition system (DAQ) and the positron tracker detector of the muEDM experiment, which aims to measure the muon electric dipole moment with a final sensitivity of 10-23 e cm using the frozen-spin technique in a compact storage ring.
The muEDM experiment employs several detectors made of plastic scintillating material and read out by silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). The chosen hardware device for SiPM biasing, signal amplification and discrimination is the CAEN FERS-A5202. For the experiment’s DAQ, an independent library was developed to fully control and configure multiple boards and to acquire data; this library was then implemented in a MIDAS software DAQ frontend.
The commissioning of the CHeT detector—a positron tracker composed of multiple cylinders made of scintillating fibres—and its readout electronics is also presented in this thesis. This includes the characterisation of the scintillating fibres in the laboratory, the design of the PCBs hosting the SiPMs and the feed-through boards for signal transmission to the acquisition boards, as well as the first tests of the two CHeT cylinders for noise evaluation and signal characterisation.
Finally, the muEDM 2025 test beam is presented, during which the DAQ system was integrated with all installed detectors, and the performance of the CHeT detector was studied using both cosmic rays and beam particles.
