Riassunto (Inglese)
In recent years, the concept of Digital Twins (DT) has gained significant traction across various industries, enabling real-time monitoring and simulation of physical assets. However, ensuring service continuity in DT systems remains a challenge, especially when dealing with mobile components in the Cloud-Edge Continuum. At the same time, the MQTT protocol has been widely adopted in Internet of Things applications due to its lightweight nature and efficient message delivery. This thesis explores the intersection of these two domains, investigating how a distributed MQTT broker architecture can be leveraged to enhance service continuity in DT systems and facilitate the orchestration of DT instances. A possible implementation of this approach is proposed, relying on open-source and widely used software components: VerneMQ as the distributed MQTT broker and Eclipse Paho as the MQTT client library. The effectiveness of the approach is tested through a series of experiments in an emulated environment to show the impact of the proposed solution on service continuity and overall system performance.
