Riassunto
My study is centred on the representation of post-truth discourse in Sam Byers's Perfidious Albion (2018), Ian McEwan's The Cockroach (2019) and Jonathan Coe's Middle England (2018). The three works belong to Brexlit, an emerging literary genre consisting of fictions that engage with Britain's withdrawal from the European Union and tackle Brexit-related issues. By comparing the narrative strategies adopted by the three selected authors, my analysis aims to illustrate the way they chose to comment upon populist demagoguery, the pervasiveness of post-truth communication in today's society and the implications of fact-manipulation on democracy.
