Riassunto
The Internet of Things (IoT) scenario is characterised by devices with constrained energy budgets and computing resources. Despite these limitations, IoT devices play a crucial role in collecting and transmitting data to control logic, where maximum data freshness can be required. The Age of Information (AoI) is a metric frequently adopted to measure the freshness of data.
However, achieving minimal AoI often necessitates adopting high data transmission rates, which can strain device capabilities and network resources, particularly considering that communication consumes a significant fraction of the available energy.
In this thesis a combined study of the interplay between energy consumption and AoI is carried out, accounting for varying network conditions. The ultimate goal is to allow designers to find the desired tradeoff between energy consumption and AoI requirements.
