Riassunto
In this research it is possible to find a collection of figurative uses of the body part terms which denote the face, the eye, the nose, the mouth, the tooth and the tongue, in English and Italian. They have been retrieved from a monolingual English dictionary (Oxford Advanced Learner's dictionary of current English), an Italian one (Lo Zingarelli 2014) and from two main corpora for the English language and for the Italian one, respectively the British National Corpus and Paisà. These data have been analysed and divided according to the metonymic or figurative category the term at hand referred to and the abstract concept implied in the figurative expressions. This work has been carried out in order to find out whether the conceptual metaphors identified may be found in both languages and whether the motivation could be related to the concept of the embodiment or to a culture-specifity fact.
