Riassunto
The thesis focuses on the reconstruction of muon momentum in the ICARUS-T600 Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) using multiple scattering techniques. ICARUS is the far detector of the Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program at Fermilab, which aims to investigate the possible existence of eV-scale sterile neutrinos through neutrino oscillation studies. Given the absence of a magnetic field in ICARUS, multiple Coulomb scattering (MCS) is the only viable method for estimating the momentum of muons escaping the detector, particularly in the 0–3 GeV energy range relevant to the Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB) and Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) experiments. A novel adaptation of the so-called "Gran Sasso" algorithm, previously developed at ICARUS when it was still at Gran Sasso National Laboratory, utilizing all three reconstruction views improves bias and resolution. Results indicate a nearly unbiased momentum reconstruction with resolution improving at higher momenta. These findings enhance muon momentum reconstruction accuracy, increasing event statistics in neutrino oscillation studies and aiding the search for sterile neutrinos.
