This work aims to reconsider the complex debate about the now lost epigraph once located in Sciacca in the light of first- hand considerations about Sciacca's topography and a personal historical research of the story of the document. Moreover, the importance of the epigraph is contextualized in the Late Roman Sicily, in which period a major economic development and a new interest for this island and its strategic importance is recognised. The study also discusses the importance of the site of Aquae Labodes, which is well known by written sources such as the Itinerarium Antonini and the Tabula Puetingeriana. A focus is dedicated to a new proposal of the ancient name.
