L’antica città di Misis, che fece parte nel passato della Cilicia, può essere ritenuta una delle più importanti della regione. Nella tesi gli antichi monumenti, le tecniche, la situazione presente, che tutte insieme costituiscono il patrimonio culturale, e le iniziative volte alla sua conservazione sono attentamente esaminati sulla base di un lavoro condotto sul campo e dei dati a disposizione. L’antica città di Misis negli ultimi decenni ha visto l’occupazione di parte del suo territorio da parte della Zona Industriale di Adana, mentre le aree intensamente coltivate che si trovano ai suoi margini rappresentano un ulteriore pericolo. Tenendo in considerazione tutto ciò, antiche città e regioni con caratteristiche simili a quelle di Misis vengono esaminate nella tesi con lo scopo di contribuire a preservare l’antica città di Misis e di inserirla nel circuito del turismo culturale. Attraverso i confronti effettuati attraverso la SWOT analysis, questa tesi si propone di sviluppare una proposta per l’antica città di Misis che tenga conto degli aspetti fisici, geografici, sociali ed economici. Il progetto di parco culturale che si propone per l’antica città di Misis è volto a preservarne il patrimonio culturale nel contesto della regione e tramite esso favorire la conoscenza storica della regione stessa. Il progetto intende anche accrescere la consapevolezza culturale degli abitanti dell’area e, con il loro contributo, promuovere lo sviluppo economico e sociale locale.

The Ancient City of Misis, belonging to Cilicia in the past, can be considered as one of the most important of the region. In the thesis the ancient buildings, the techniques, the present situation all making up the cultural heritage, and the implementations aiming at its conservation are carefully examined on the basis of the work carried out on the field and of available data. The Ancient City of Misis in the last decades has faced the occupation of part of its territory by the Organized Industrial Site of Adana, while the intensively cultivated areas standing at its borders represent another menace for it. Keeping all this in mind, ancient cities and regions carrying similar features to those of Misis are examined in the thesis in order to accomplish the preservation of the Ancient City of Misis and to insert it into the circuit of cultural tourism. Through comparison with the SWOT analysed examples, the final aim of the thesis is to bring forward a proposal for the Ancient City of Misis which takes into account the physical, geographical, social and economic dimensions. The proposed cultural park project for the Ancient City of Misis looks forward to preserving the cultural heritage embedded in the region and through it to enhance the historical knowledge of the region itself. The project also intends to increase the cultural awareness of the inhabitants of the area and, with their contribution, to promote the local social and economic development.
