The thesis analyzes the evolution of the concept of risk culture through a review of the relevant literature and the main regulatory provisions issued by the FSB, the BCBS, and the ECB. The study is structured around the four dimensions of risk culture identified in the FSB framework, whose specific features, impacts, and interactions are examined in depth. The analysis highlights both the formal and governance-related aspects, as well as the cultural and behavioral implications. Building on this theoretical and regulatory framework, the thesis develops an empirical investigation focused on the Italian banking system. Through the analysis of public documentation from three major banking groups by total assets, i.e. Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, and Banco BPM, the study explores the practices adopted by these institutions and illustrates the concrete ways in which risk culture principles are implemented and translated into governance structures and organizational practices.
