Riassunto
As the global population grows, the demand for agri-food products increases, and aquaculture has emerged as an efficient and low-impact sector. However, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies show that feed production is the primary environmental impact factor in aquaculture. Farms with higher feed conversion ratios (FCR) tend to have larger ecological footprints. This study assessed a trout farm in Italy, examining the impact of different FCR values on sustainability. Results indicate that higher FCR leads to a larger ecological footprint, with feed production being the most significant contributor, while electricity and fuel use have a smaller impact.
