Riassunto
The work consists of three phases. The first is a review of the design features associated with the assembly process. The result is a taxonomy of the main types of assembly that can be found in the industry. The development of the taxonomy has been based on the concepts of assembly features found in literature.
In the second phase the peg-in-hole assembly class has been extracted from the tax- onomy. The components of this class, i.e. the peg and the component with the seat for the peg, have been studied in order to produce a description that connects them to the concept of Skill as formula, ted in the domain of Evolvable Production Systems (EPS).
Finally the parameters resulting from that mapping have been tested on the worksta- tion located at the Department of Production Engineering, Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan in order to validate the characterization of the product.
