In my thesis I will measure the efficiency of water companies located in two regions of our country, Tuscany and Piedmont, and compare them with two Portuguese regions, Lisbon and Porto. The idea and the first part of my thesis has developed during my period in Lisbon where I have visited Prof. Rui Cunha Marques and his staff. I am very thankful for the opportunities they gave me.
In this thesis I will mainly analyze the various business variables and study the economic balance or the eco-sustainable balance for the construction of the database, which is fundamental for the development of the DEA model. The developed DEA model is the BCC, to variable returns to scale, with an 'output orientation. This model was developed in Portugal with the 'essential support of Prof. Diogo Cunha Ferreira, a member of the staff of prof. Rui Cunha Marques, who also explained how to use the Matlab software, namely just to put in place the DEA model and calculate the efficiency of each DMU.
