Riassunto
According to the World Health Organization, skin cancer accounted for about 25% of all cancer cases in 2018. Like other malignant cancerous type, early diagnosis of skin cancer is essential to reduce adverse patient outcomes. State of the art review shows that there is a urge for more objective and qualitative instruments in skin cancer investigation. The aim of this study is to design and prototype a novel dermatologic tool based on a multisensory technology. Two sensing technologies (i.e. dermoscopic imaging in visible light and reflectance spectroscopy in near infrared region) were chosen to be embedded in the design and are meant to provide both morphological and chemical information about the lesion. The technical requirements of the two modules have been obtained from the previous review of state of the art and the components selection has been performed aiming to reduce overall costs, complexity and power requirements of the final prototype. Customized PCBs have been designed to allow miniaturization and portability. A simple graphical user interface has been written in Phyton to guide the clinician during the data collecting removing unnecessary complexity. The system is compliant with digital healthcare infrastructure and allows future integration of additional modules. The device fulfils the requirements to be applied as clinician’s supportive tool in skin cancer screening procedure towards enhancing early detection.
