Riassunto
According to the World Health Organization , urban population had been at approximately 54% of global population by 2014, with this figure being even higher in developed countries than in developing ones.
As more and more people become urbanized and move to cities, the issue of mental health problems in urban areas is growing. Like this, some studies suggest that urban living increases mental illness (Kwon 2016 ). At the same time, a meta-analysis by Peen, et al. (2010) concluded that city living increases anxiety disorders approximately 21%, mood disorders 39%, and roughly doubles schizophrenia rates.
Now it’s all up to us what new cities will look like – whether they are going to be chaotic and cognitively suppressing or created mentally healthy in order to give us a sense of well-being and the cognitively motivating environment.
