Riassunto
This thesis describes all phases of the first-hand execution of a series of open-field emissions monitoring tests, called “in service monitoring” (ISM), on offroad machinery equipped with EU Stage V compliant engines: from the definition of the work-cycle to the analysis and post-elaboration of the emissions and operating parameters, ending with the definition of the official reports requested by the EU.
The presented work was carried out at Lombardini srl (Rehlko group), which manufactures the engines that equip the tested machinery, produced by third-party companies.
ISM tests are conceived to assess the coherence of the emissions generated by offroad engines with the emissions measured during the homologation cycles; for this reason, they are done directly on the machinery on a real duty-cycle, using a PEMS system to measure and acquire the emissions profiles.
The execution of the necessary checks to guarantee the linearity of the analysers is also described in the thesis, along with the calculations ensuring that the measuring drift is below the limits and with the real-time monitoring of the operation parameters of the engines.
Moreover, the calculation process to obtain the Conformity Factors for each regulated pollutant is shown and the results are explained on the basis of the executed test cycles and of the post-treatment systems that equip the engines.
