L’elaborato si concentra sull’utilizzo della biografia dell’oggetto come metodologia volta a ricostruire i mutamenti identitari, le trasformazioni di significato e le relazioni che hanno reso, il manufatto nel tempo, un attore culturale e non un mero testimone passivo. La biografia dell’oggetto comprende non solo la sua funzione primaria, ma anche le fasi successive quali scarto, riuso, recupero, vendita ed esposizione museale. Il museo assume un ruolo fondamentale nella ricostruzione di questa biografia e nella sua restituzione verso il pubblico, contribuendo a rendere leggibile una storia complessa e stratificata. Il busto di Nefertiti è stato utilizzato come caso studio per mostrare come un oggetto come un oggetto possa attraversare traiettorie profondamente diverse nel tempo, evidenziando come i manufatti esposti nelle teche museali non coincidano più con quelli del loro contesto originario. Il busto di Nefertiti, oggi icona dell’Egitto antico, simbolo di bellezza, era stato realizzato per poi essere abbandonato o scartato dal suo scultore. Nonostante ciò, si tratta di un oggetto che esercita un’agency particolarmente forte nel presente, generando ancora oggi ampie controversie, soprattutto in relazione alla sua possibile restituzione.

The thesis focuses on the use of the object's biography as a methodology aimed at reconstructing the changes in identity, the transformations in meaning, and the relationships that have made the artifact, over time, a cultural actor and not a mere passive witness. The object's biography includes not only its primary function, but also subsequent phases such as disposal, reuse, restoration, sale, and museum exhibition. The museum plays a fundamental role in reconstructing this biography and presenting it to the public, helping to make a complex and layered history legible. The bust of Nefertiti was used as a case study to show how an object can follow profoundly different trajectories over time, highlighting how the artifacts displayed in museum cases no longer coincide with those of their original context. The bust of Nefertiti, now an icon of ancient Egypt and a symbol of beauty, was created and then abandoned or discarded by its sculptor. Despite this, it is an object that exerts a particularly strong agency in the present, still generating widespread controversy, especially in relation to its possible restitution.
