Il presente lavoro di tesi propone la traduzione e il commento di due testi divulgativi per bambini riguardanti i disastri naturali. I libri presi in considerazione appartengono all’ampio genere dei testi informativi per l’infanzia a cui è dedicato il primo capitolo. Quest’ultimo tratta i vari sottogeneri dei libri divulgativi, la loro struttura interna, ma anche i principali tipi testuali e atti illocutivi impiegati nella loro realizzazione. Si passa poi all’analisi delle principali strategie esplicative e di coinvolgimento-intrattenimento che troviamo all’interno del corpus adottato, costituito da due libri in italiano autentico e tre in inglese. Nel terzo capitolo si espongono le scelte adottate per promuovere la conoscenza dei disastri naturali e delle strategie di preparedness nei bambini, tenendo in considerazione le tecniche di mitigazione adottate per ridurre l’impatto psicologico negativo che possono avere tematiche come la morte e il pericolo. Il quarto capitolo rappresenta un’analisi dei libri dal punto di vista multimodale. Infine, il quinto e ultimo capitolo commenta gli aspetti principali della proposta di traduzione dei testi selezionati e le scelte traduttologiche effettuate.

This paper focuses on the translation and commentary of two non-fiction books for children concerning natural disasters. The texts considered belong to the broad genre of information books for children, which is addressed in the first chapter. This chapter explores the various subgenres of popular science books, their internal structure, as well as the main textual types and illocutionary acts they employ. The analysis then moves on to the main explanatory strategies and engagement-entertainment techniques found within the adopted corpus, which consists of two books in authentic Italian and three in English. The third chapter highlights the approaches used to enhance children's understanding of natural disasters and preparedness strategies, taking into account the mitigation techniques used to reduce the negative psychological impact that topics like death and danger can have. The fourth chapter represents an analysis of the books from a multimodal perspective. Finally, the fifth chapter discusses the key aspects of the proposed translation and the translational choices made.
