Riassunto
Ion irradiation of structural materials for nuclear reactors is a widespread technique used to simulate neutron irradiation in the context of material science research. During the designing phase of irradiation experiments Monte Carlo transport codes are often employed to quantify the radiation exposure, by estimating the displacements per atom (dpa) quantity. There are several codes available to perform displacement calculations, in this work a benchmarking of some of them has been outlined. The benchmark concerns the simulation of irradiation by protons, neutron and iron ions beams. Results coming from the different codes are presented in the form of damage profiles and of number of displacements as a function of beam energy. Significant differences between the results obtained by the selected codes are revealed and recommendations for correct parameters implementations are provided.
