Riassunto
In this thesis, gold electrode surfaces were functionalized with NHC carbenes (N-heterocyclic carbenes), to study their use as cross-linkers in the development of sensors and biosensors. The use of NHC carbenes for the aforementioned application is suggested by the greater bond force between carbon and gold compared to traditional cross-linkers such as thiols. After functionalization, the monolayer showed a long-term stability, resistance to oxidation, and temperature endurance, improving the performance of the sensor. The functionalization methods investigated comprised self-assembly or electrodeposition, by immersion in a solution of NHCs. The modified surfaces obtained with these techniques were compared with more traditional thiol-based self-assembled monolayers (SAMs).
