Riassunto
Obesity is anthropometrically defined as each ponderal stare characterized by a body mass index or BMI (i.e. the weight divided by the square of the height) higher or equal to 30. Obesity is associated with a diversity of psychiatric diagnostic categories, with the most important associations being with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and the family of eating disorders defined by the loss of control on eating behaviors, namely bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder (binge eating spectrum). Within a naturalistic setting, 215 obese patients were consecutively enrolled between March 2019 and January 2024 at the Obesity Centre of the U.O. Endocrinology 1 of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Pisana (AOUP) during the pre-surgical multidisciplinary assessment program. The prevalence of psychiatric diagnoses, dysfunctional eating patterns and their relationships with emotional dysregulation, executive functions and temperamental dimensions are analyzed and discussed.
