In this thesis work, dinuclear cyclopentadienyl iron complexes [Fe2Cp2(CO)(L)(NCMe)(CNRR’)]+ were investigated as catalysts for the coupling of MeCN and an aldehyde to obtain β-hydroxynitriles. First, the catalytic reaction conditions were optimized. Subsequently, the effect on catalytic performance of structural variations of the catalyst was studied, including the influence of different substituents and terminal ligands. All the tested catalysts were previously synthesized. In addition a computational analysis of selected systems was carried out.
