This study explores the electrochemical properties of Dimetridazole, focusing on its reduction mechanisms in different media. As a nitroimidazole-class compound with significant pharmaceutical and ecological relevance, Dimetridazole serves as a model for the study of electrochemical behaviour of Pretomanid, an emerging drug used in tuberculosis treatments. Using cyclic voltammetry and electrolysis, the electrochemical behaviour of Dimetridazole was studied in acetonitrile and aqueous solutions across varying pH levels. The reduction of nitro group was confirmed as the main reduction process. Results provided key insights into the overall redox mechanism and individual reduction steps in different media and the number of electrons involved in these steps. By establishing Dimetridazole as a reference compound, this study advances the understanding of redox properties of nitroimidazole-class of compounds, offering valuable information for their environmental monitoring.
