Riassunto
The present study explores the extraordinary role played by three women in rewriting the narrative of the Italian Risorgimento. Chapter I contextualizes the Risorgimento, examining pre-unification Italy, the British and American perceptions of its struggle, and the literary representations of this historic period. Chapter II delves into Margaret Fuller’s evolution as a feminist critic and reporter, emphasizing her impactful Roman Dispatches. Chapter III examines Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poetic voice, focusing on Casa Guidi Windows as a fusion of personal and political expression. Chapter IV takes into account the voice of denunciation of Jessie White Mario expressed in her Nation's articles. These three voices, although different in means, complement each other, offering a multifaced perspective on the Risorgimento and its implication.
