Summary
The thesis starts from the presentation of the Italian social security system, analyzing the various reforms that have affected it since its introduction in 1948. Today this system takes on a three-pillar form, emphasizing the importance of alternative forms of coverage for the citizen, such as those of complementary pensions and supplementary pensions. In a context of profound social and economic changes, it seemed appropriate to concentrate on the development of an advanced level of social security, so, next to the free protection offered by the National Health System, new forms of private protection were introduced through supplementary health funds. There is an excursus of the types of private health insurance recognized in Italy, highlighting the risks that the insurance company leans on when stipulating policies of this type with its customers. The reference to the quantitative models for estimating the technical bases for health insurance is fundamental, since each one is more suitable for a type of insurance product and it is essential to make the right choice. As a practical example, the "Immaginadesso" health insurance policy of Generali Italia is presented, in its Health and Wellness formula, indicating the guarantees offered, the maximum insurable capital for each guarantee and the rate parameters that the company uses to calculate the premium. Through three examples it is possible to show how the rate premium, which each insurer must pay, when some parameters vary.
