This thesis starts from the analytical mechanical analysis of a superconducting<br>solenoid, loaded by self generated Lorentz forces. Also, a finite element<br>model is proposed and verified with the analytical results. To study the<br>anisotropic behavior of a coil made by layers of superconductor and insulation,<br>a finite element meso-mechanic model is proposed and designed. The<br>resulting material properties are then used in the main solenoid analysis.<br>In parallel, design work is performed as well: an existing Insert Test Facility<br>(ITF) is adapted and structurally verified to support a coil made of<br>YBa2Cu3O7, a High Temperature Superconductor (HTS). Finally, a technological<br>winding process was proposed and the required tooling is designed.
