Riassunto
MEMS gyroscopes are miniature sensors which detect angular velocity. The most typical architecture generates an electrical output signal at a fixed frequency with an amplitude proportional to the angular velocity to be detected. A potential alternative, mentioned in modern scientific papers, would be to produce an output signal whose frequency is proportional to the angular velocity.
The aim of this study is to do a deep comparison of the two approaches, by designing a frequency-modulated gyroscope and comparing its performance with an existing amplitude-modulated gyroscope of the same size. The work will cover both system-level simulations (including control loops) and mechanical simulations (including the impact of the most common manufacturing errors).
