Riassunto
This thesis has been developed in the Dipartimento di ingegneria civile e industriale of the University of Pisa in the framework of the European research programme Clean Sky 2.
The work documents the activities carried out for the Preliminary System Safety Assessment of the Morphing flap Subsystem of the Morphing Wing for a civil transport aircraft.
These subsystems are used to adapt to varying flight phases or flight conditions, to improve performances and is composed of five rotary Electro-Mechanical Actuators.
Once defined the functional requirements and their allocation to single components, the Functional Hazard Analysis tables are developed, by systematically examining the different possible failure conditions at the different flight phases.
The effects of the failure and the related risks are evaluated following the applicable airworthiness certification references.
Once selected the most severe failure conditions from the Functional Hazard Analysis table results, a Fault-Tree Analysis is developed, in order to highlight and discuss the most relevant reliability/safety issues related to each system design.
The list of failures has been prepared through an extensive Failure Modes and Criticality Analysis and finally a maintenance planning is defined.
