Riassunto
The aim of this work is to compare traditional techniques, such as Hot-Wire Anemometry and balances, with the new ProCap System to map wake regions by the traversing method.
In order to explore the capabilities of the ProCap system to measure aerodynamic force, the drag of different bodies has been evaluated through wind tunnel experiments carried out at the ZHAW School of Engineering in Winterthur by using the momentum balance and different theories.
Looking for a wider range of flow behavior various model shapes were tested, first aerodynamic airfoils with fully attacched boundary layer, such as non-lifting Naca simmetric profile. Next fully separeted flows such as the flow around a circular cylinder have been considered. In the end the effects of a deflected flap of a Naca multi-element airfoil are investigated.Experimental drag coefficient results have been compared with balance and literature values too. Coefficients calculated through momentum balance, combining pressure measurements from the ProCap system and velocity measurements from hot wire anemomenter, show a good matching with the target values.
