Riassunto
IT:

EN:
The situation in southern Italy during the Copper and Bronze Ages is rich in examples that can help us understand the complexity of the societies of the time. Although the ceramic facies, and sometimes even the funerary ones, show, in this sense, a certain cultural diversity, it is clear that at the basis of these first complex social organizations there were the same interests. It could be said that the motivations pushing populations to organize themselves in certain ways, regardless of the area under observation, are always the same: construction of villages in points suitable for agro-pastoral practices, control of fundamental junctions of the territory and the desire to entertain economic and social relations with other communities.
In the panorama of southern Italy, the region of Campania is not an exception. Its sites show us an overall picture which coincides with the above-mentioned needs. The places investigated show a constant development during the centuries and thanks to the state of conservation of some contexts the information in our possession should make us reflect on the real capacities of these communities.
During the course of the entire protohistory of the region, one can note, with regard to the relationships with other peoples, a constant presence of ceramics coming from other areas. Whether it is the culture of Laterza or Cetina in the Copper Age or the findings associated with Aegean ceramics during the Bronze Age, it is clear that the social situation of the time is much more complex than one might think. The web of relationships that existed, starting from the Copper Age, which is widely detectable from the study of archaeological sites, leads us to think that these communities were not absolutely isolated from each other but, on the contrary, lived in a much more "globalized" context, with all the limitations that, of course, we can give to this term by inserting it in that precise period of the history of peoples.
The study of the contexts of Campania brings to light a territorial picture generally uniform for each facies described, however it should be emphasized how these are intertwined with those from other territories, just think of the overlap detected, for example, for the contexts Laterza-Cetina-Palma Campania or the later evidence that shows us contacts with the Aegean world.
The study was carried out by presenting first of all a general picture of the protohistoric situation in southern Italy, using as a reference the many works published in the course of decades of archaeological research. This type of introduction was desired to contextualize what is the framework, more specific, of the region Campania, central topic of this work, treated starting from the archaeological research that have invested this territory since the '70s.
As an integration to the text, two graphs have been inserted to show the main eruptive events of the region and also some maps showing the location of the sites treated in the text, elaborated by the author.
The purpose of this work is twofold. On the one hand the aim is to offer an overview of this region, not as an isolated territory, but keeping in mind the wider context of southern Italy. Secondly, we wanted to offer a particular vision on the peopling of Campania, in the Copper and Bronze Ages, trying to give an adequate explanation for the choice of founding settlements even in places sometimes inauspicious, such as near the Vesuvius.
