Summary
Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are frequent features of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) with 35% to 75% patients affected by MCI experiencing at least one neuropsychiatric symptom with depression, apathy and anxiety being the most prevalent. Previous studies investigating the relationship between BPSD and AD pathology (Aβ deposition and tau pathology) are not univocal some showing a correlation between BPSD and Aβ deposition, others not confirming this association and demonstrating that BPSD seem to be predominantly related to tau pathology Our study aim to reveal possible differences in cerebral beta-amyloid deposition, as measured by [18F]-Florbetapir-PET quantitative uptake, between AD and MCI due to AD patients with and without BPSD.
