After attending this presentation, attendees will have the results of an experimental study performed to define the postmortem interval (PMI). Several authors distinguished within the forensic relevant post mortem interval between PMI < 50 years and PMI > 50 years. For these reasons, it is very important to define simple techniques that could be applied in every forensic laboratory to establish the PMI of human bones. The objective of this thesis is the identification of the PMI of a specific judicial case (discovery of skeletal remains of an unknown period) by applying a new forensic approach, using more widely used and economic techniques that do not require the presence of ultra-specialistic personnel and equipment. This experimental model involves the use of different non-invasive techniques such as:UV-induced fluorescence test, histological tests (H&E and Masson's trichrome stains) and immunohistochemical test (Glycophorin A antibody). In conclusion, by combining the results of the various techniques used, relating them to cases with known PMI, it was possible to exclude the forensic interest in the skeletal remains of the case in question, by applying common methods and without destroying the find in question.
