Summary
Over the last decades obesity increased in both developed and developing countries. Obesity frequently co-occur with eating disorders. Indeed, it is estimated that 20% of obese subjects asking for bariatric surgery met DSM-5 criteria for binge eating disorders. However, few studies has been conducted on specific psychopathology of obese subjects who do not met diagnostic criteria for eating disorders. The purpose of this study is to investigate the specific psychopathological features of obese subjects not diagnosed with a psychiatric disorders. 141 obese subjects undergoing a pre-surgical assessment at the Obesity and Metabolic Diseases Centre of Pisa University Hospital were recruited between September 2018 and February 2020. All subjects underwent a mental health assessment at the Psychiatric Unit of Pisa University Hospital including both a clinical interview and specific psychometric instruments.
