Il cytobrush è ad oggi il dispositivo più utilizzato per la diagnosi nella vacca di patologie infiammatorie e infettive dell’utero nel post-partum. Lo scopo di questo studio è quello di valutare una nuova tipologia di cytobrush in fase di brevettazione (Catcet) e compararla con un catetere commerciale prodotto dalla ditta Minitube e con un catetere da inseminazione modificato secondo quanto descritto da Pascottini et al. nel 2015. Sono state incluse nello studio 8 vacche di razza frisona tra i 116 e i 705 GIM. I soggetti sono stati sottoposti per 3 cicli consecutivi al campionamento delle cellule endometriali (1 campionamento per ciclo). Non sono emerse differenze significative tra i tempi di cateterizzazione tra la tipologia Catcet e il cytobrush con il metodo Pascottini (70 secondi vs56 secondi a≠b: P<0.0003) mentre con la tipologia commerciale non è stato possibile cateterizzare la cervice. Inoltre non sono state riscontrate differenze significative tra il Catcet e quello del metodo Pascottini per quanto riguarda la densità cellulare e la contaminazione da globuli rossi (3.5/4 vs 4/4 e 1.5/4 vs 2/4 a≠b: P=0,03). L’infusione dell’utero con CatCet è risultata di facile applicazione rendendo questo strumento utile pure per le terapie intraluminali. Concludendo, il CatCet è a nostro avviso, uno strumento già valido per la cateterizzazione atraumatica della cervice uterina ad ogni stadio del ciclo, ed uno strumento utile per la valutazione della salute dell’endometrio.

The cytobrush is currently the most commonly used device for diagnosing inflammatory and infectious uterine pathologies in post-partum cows. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new type of cytobrush under patent (Catcet) and compare it with a commercial catheter produced by Minitube and a modified insemination catheter as described by Pascottini et al. in 2015. The study included 8 Holstein cows aged between 116 and 705 days in milk (DIM). The subjects underwent endometrial cell sampling for 3 consecutive cycles (1 sampling per cycle). There were no significant differences in catheterization times between the Catcet type and the Pascottini method (70 seconds vs 56 seconds, a≠b: P<0.0003), while with the commercial type, cervical catheterization was not possible. Furthermore, there were no significant differences between Catcet and the Pascottini method in terms of cell density and contamination from red blood cells (3.5/4 vs 4/4 and 1.5/4 vs 2/4, a≠b: P=0.03). The uterine infusion with CatCet was found to be easily applicable, making this instrument useful for intraluminal therapies as well. In conclusion, in our opinion, CatCet is already a valid instrument for atraumatic catheterization of the uterine cervix at any stage of the cycle and a useful tool for assessing endometrial health.
