La tesi propone la traduzione e il relativo commento linguistico-traduttivo di Symptômes, ultimo romanzo grafico dell’autrice quebecchese Catherine Ocelot. L’obiettivo principale è proporre una traduzione che permetta di avvicinare il più possibile il lettore italofono al testo originale quebecchese, rendendo la traduzione sufficientemente idiomatica e naturale, senza però tradire le intenzioni dell’autrice e mantenendo dunque i riferimenti culturali e contestuali del testo originale. La traduzione presentata appare come una vera e propria proposta di pubblicazione editoriale in quanto le immagini originali sono state mantenute in traduzione anche in ragione della necessità di preservare i legami tra gli elementi iconici e verbali del testo.
La tesi si divide in tre capitoli che affrontano temi relativi al fumetto e alla sua traduzione. Il primo capitolo offre una panoramica sul fumetto, analizzando la sua nascita, il suo sviluppo in Québec e le sue evoluzioni fino alla nascita del graphic novel, proponendo anche un’analisi semiotica volta a identificare le peculiarità di questo genere letterario.
Nel secondo capitolo una prima parte è dedicata alla descrizione dell’approccio traduttivo utilizzato, mentre la seconda parte presenta la proposta di traduzione in cui il testo originale e il testo tradotto sono disposti in parallelo.
Infine, il terzo ed ultimo capitolo offre una riflessione più dettagliata dei problemi e delle difficoltà incontrate durante la traduzione. Ogni paragrafo analizza uno specifico problema traduttivo, tra cui ad esempio le onomatopee, gli anglicismi, i culturemi e molto altro, giustificando le scelte operate.
In conclusione, il lavoro intende offrire una panoramica generale sul fumetto quebecchese, evidenziando le problematiche più frequenti legate alla sua traduzione e per questo fornisce un contributo allo sviluppo di riflessioni circa il fumetto e il graphic novel.

This master thesis aspires to show the translation and a linguistic-translational reflection of Symptômes, the last graphic novel by the Quebecois author Catherine Ocelot. The main purpose of the work is to present a translation that aims to bring the source text closer to the target reader, making the Italian text sound natural and sufficiently idiomatic, without betraying the author’s intentions and therefore maintaining the cultural references and the context of the original text. This work proposes a target text that must be intended as a complete editorial product in which the original images have been maintained and reproduced to preserve the link between the iconic and the verbal aspects of the text.
The thesis is divided into three chapters and each part focuses on a specific aspect of comics and their translation. The first chapter provides an overview of comics, analysing its genesis, its development in Quebec, and the evolutions that the genre has undergone over the years until the birth of the graphic novel, as well as presenting a semiotic analysis of the specific characteristics and features of this literary genre.
In the second chapter, the first section is dedicated to the description of the translational approach that has been adopted, followed by the translation itself in which the French source text and the Italian target text are presented in parallel.
Lastly, the third chapter presents the linguistic comment on the main problems and difficulties encountered during the translation process. Each paragraph of the chapter analyses a specific translation issue like for example onomatopoeia, Anglicisms, culturemes, and so on, motivating the translational choices.
All things considered, this work aims to offer a general view on Quebecois comics, highlighting the main difficulties that can be found when dealing with their translation and thereby provides a contribution to the development of translation thoughts about comics and graphic novels.
