Summary
In order to verifying the structural behaviour of ITER's cryostat under some classes of incidents are conservative, ITER is interested in a set of CFD calculations that consider the following set of events:
• The rupture of a cryogenic line inside the cryostat
• The ingress of air from outside the cryostat
In the first part of this work we introduce the nuclear fusion reactions and the current engineering solutions which allow to control these reactions. Then we introduce and describe ITER and its main components.
Afterward we analyse the physics of the problem and we introduce the assumption made over geometry and materials used in the simulations.
Then, after a recall over computational fluid dynamics, we present the settings we used in the software.
Finally we show the results obtained and the comparison with calculations already done in ITER.
