Riassunto
This work is the result of a 6-month internship at Maserati s.p.a., Modena.
In the first part, a vehicle model for handling analysis and real-time vehicle dynamics is developed; in order to asses its performances it is compared to more advanced models, in particular to a multibody Adams model, and to an hybrid VI-Grade CarRealTime model. Furthermore, the model is used to analyze the effects of suspension compliance on vehicle handling dynamics.
In the second part of this work, an algorithm for \emph{in-vehicle} tire characterization is developed: it estimates the parameters of a tire model from vehicle dynamics data. The identified characteristic is than employed in a vehicle model, and the simulated handling dynamics is compared to the experimental data.
In the appendix, it is described the optimization algorithm coded to perform tires characterization.
