L’elaborato si propone come uno studio sulla messa in scena dell’Ifigenia Taurica di Euripide e un tentativo di ricostruzione scenica di quanto era visibile agli occhi del pubblico ateniese a teatro durante la rappresentazione; il lavoro nasce dalla convinzione che sia possibile ipotizzare, partendo dal testo greco giunto fino a noi, quali siano state le scelte sceniche perseguite dal tragediografo e che l’analisi di queste possa essere utile per comprendere nella sua totalità il dramma e il messaggio che può celarsi dietro ad esso. La tesi si compone di quattro capitoli principali, ognuno del quale analizza un problema scenico specifico: il primo capitolo è incentrato sulla scenografia, il secondo sui movimenti di entrata e di uscita e l’utilizzo delle comparse mute, il terzo sulla valenza drammatica dell’oggetto di scena, e l’ultimo, inserendo studi di antropologia del mondo antico, riflette sul rapporto che poteva crearsi tra la competenza rituale del pubblico e la messa in scena di elementi rituali, con l’esempio diretto della processione finale della tragedia.

The work is proposed as a study on the staging of the Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides and an attempt to reconstruct what was visible to the Athenian audience at the theater during the performance; the work is born from the conviction that it is possible to hypothesize, working on the Greek text which has come down to us, what have been the scenic choices pursued by the tragedian and that the analysis of these may be useful to understand in its entirety the drama and the message that can be hidden behind it. The thesis consists of four main chapters, each of which analyzes a specific scenic problem: the first chapter is focused on the scenography, the second on the movements of entry and exit and the use of extras, the third on the value of the prop, and the last, using anthropology studies of the ancient world, reflects on the relationship that could be created between the ritual competence of the public and the staging of ritual elements, with the direct example of the final procession of the tragedy.
