La presente tesi di dottorato ha come oggetto di indagine il commento del poligrafo siro Gregorius Barhebraeus (1225/6–1286) ai Dodici Profeti Minori, ultima sezione dell'Antico Testamento nel “Magazzino dei Misteri” (Awsar Roze), il suo commentario esegetico all'intera Bibbia siriaca (Peshitta). Scopo dell'elaborato è quello di fornire uno studio strutturale e contenutistico del testo siriaco, un'edizione critica e una traduzione inglese con commento.
La trattazione si sviluppa su tre livelli, cui corrispondono tre parti principali.
Nella prima parte, a un breve quadro metodologico seguono: una descrizione codicologica dettagliata dei tre testimoni più antichi e importanti dell'opera; una rassegna dei principali studi sulla sezione in oggetto; una possibile ricostruzione delle relazioni stemmatiche tra i tre manoscritti (grazie a una disamina dei dati forniti dai colofoni e delle principali varianti testuali); una presentazione delle più salienti caratteristiche formali e contenutistiche. Nella seconda parte, la traduzione è accompagnata da richiami a testi siriaci complementari, confronti con i corrispondenti passi in altre versioni bibliche antiche e riferimenti a ulteriori fonti utilizzate da Barhebraeus. La terza parte, infine, è dedicata al testo critico (volume II), introdotto da alcune osservazioni critiche e da un elenco delle citazioni e dei richiami (volume I).

The present PhD dissertation focuses on the exegetical commentary by the Syriac polygraph Gregory Barhebraeus (1225/6–1286) on the Twelve Minor Prophets, included as the last section of the Old Testament in the “Storehouse of Mysteries” (Awsar Roze), his comprehensive exposition on the Syriac Bible (Peshitta). The aim of this work is to offer a study of both structure and contents of chosen section, a critical edition of the Syriac text and an English commented translation.
The study develops through three main levels and three corresponding parts.
In the first part, a short methodological outline introduces to: a thorough codicological description of the three oldest and most important witnesses of the work; a survey on the most noteworthy studies about this section; a tentative reconstruction of stemmatic relationship between the three manuscripts (by means of examination of both information provided by colophons and relevant textual variants); a description of the main features, insofar as formal structure and contents are concerned. In the second part, translation is integrated with footnotes on related Syriac works, on comparison with same passages in other ancient biblical versions, and on references to further sources Barhebraeus resorted to. Finally, the third part offers a critical text (volume II) preceded by some remarks on ecdotical issues and by a list of quotations and references (volume I).
