Il mio lavoro di tesi vuole ricostruire la storia delle gallerie d’arte specializzate in fotografia a partire dalla loro nascita nella seconda metà dell’800 fino ai giorni nostri, analizzandone anche il rapporto con le istituzioni e il mercato.
Nel primo capitolo ho analizzato la nascita e la struttura dei primi studi fotografici negli Stati Uniti, soffermandomi sulle prime esperienze di gallery con funzione espositiva del fotografo Mathew Brady.
Nel secondo capitolo ho trattato le prime gallerie fotografiche newyorkesi di Alfred Stieglitz, il primo che introdusse nel territorio degli Stati Uniti la Fotografia Artistica.
Nel terzo capitolo ho descritto le gallerie fotografiche dal dopoguerra americano fino ai giorni nostri sorte, dopo le prime esperienze di Stieglitz, in modo capillare su tutto il territorio degli Stati Uniti.
Nel quarto capitolo ho descritto la situazione italiana tra il 1850 e il 1950, concentrandomi sui primi studi fotografici dei fratelli Alinari e di Giacomo e Carlo Brogi a Firenze.
Nell’ultimo capitolo ho trattato la nascita e lo sviluppo delle gallerie fotografiche italiane dal dopoguerra ai giorni nostri, evidenziando il forte ritardo dell’Italia rispetto agli esempi statunitensi e concentrandomi anche sul rapporto della fotografia con le istituzioni e con il mercato.

My thesis aims to reconstruct the history of art galleries specializing in photography since their birth in the second half of the 800 to the present day, analyzing the relationship with the institutions and the market.
In the first chapter I analyzed the birth and structure of the first photographic studios in the United States, focussing on the experiences of the photographer Mathew Brady.
In the second chapter I analyzed the first photogalleries of Alfred Stieglitz in New York, the first who introduced Artistic Photography into the territory of the United States.
In the third chapter I described the american photogalleries after the Second World War until today born, after the first experiences of Stieglitz, throughout the territory of the United States.
In the fourth chapter, I described the situation in Italian between 1850 and 1950, focusing on early photographic studies of the Alinari brothers and Carlo and Giacomo Brogi in Florence.
In the last chapter I analyzed the birth and development of photogalleries from the post-war italian period to the present day, focusing on the relationship of photography with the institutions and the market.
