This thesis describes the design and implementation of a business intelligence solution based on Kimball’s approach for the consulting firm Soluxioni s.r.l. The aim of the project was to conduct a longitudinal student performance and retention analysis in primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary schools in Tuscany region, using the accumulated students’ historical data in the transactional database of Tuscany Regional School Office, a customer of the firm. The solution produced a data-driven analytical reports to help executives and managers in decision making in planning educational activities.
The thesis describes the requirements analysis and specification, the initial data marts conceptual design, the logical design phase, the extract, transform and load process, the data cube and finally the report development.
