Riassunto
This master's thesis project proposes a solution for fast network traffic classification in virtualized environments where hypervisors need to classify packets generated by multiple guests. Per-packet classification computing time can become an important factor in max achievable throughput, as each packet header and/or payload must be inspected by the hypervisor. Our solution proposes to use the BpfHV driver/backend together with the PSPAT userspace scheduler to achieve higher throughputs by moving this task from hypervisor to guest driver. Extensive experimentation on artificial and real traffic scenarios shows that this mechanism can improve throughput up to 80%.
