La presente tesi si incentra sull’analisi e sulla traduzione del secondo tomo dell’ultimo scritto pubblicato da Mary Shelley, Rambles in Germany and Italy (1844), nel quale ella racconta l’ultimo viaggio della sua esistenza. L’intera opera è stata studiata ponendo enfasi sul potere catartico del wandering e, più nello specifico, su come esso conduca la Shelley verso un cammino di self-healing, ritrovando così la pace interiore. La ricerca mirerà ad esplorare le due valenze del wandering come profilate dalla narrazione dell’autrice, ovvero, quella fisica e quella estetica, soffermandosi sull’esaminazione del fondamentale apporto dell'Imagination, della Fancy e del Sublime in tale percorso curativo. L'elaborato è articolato in quattro capitoli: nei primi due, si esamineranno i nuclei tematici dell’opera, mentre nel terzo e nel quarto rispettivamente, seguirà la traduzione ed un commento traduttivo, nel quale si esplicheranno le scelte traduttive compiute in relazione all'interpretazione e all’analisi del testo.

This dissertation is centred on the analysis and on the translation of the second part of Mary Shelley’s last published work, Rambles in Germany and Italy (1844), in which she recounts the last journey of her existence. The whole novel has been studied with emphasis on the cathartic power of wandering and, more specifically, on how it leads Shelley toward a journey of self-healing, thus finding inner peace. This research will aim to explore the two facets of wandering as portrayed by the author’s narrative, namely, the physical and the aesthetic, focusing on the examination of the fundamental contribution of the Imagination, the Fancy and the Sublime in such healing journey. The thesis consists of four chapters: the first two will examine the thematic cores of the novel, while the third and fourth chapters will respectively be followed by the translation and a translation comment, in which the translational choices made in relation to the interpretation and analysis of the text, will be explained.
