L'elaborato riguarda il concetto di Sicurezza della Navigazione e la relativa evoluzione alla luce delle sfide poste dalle nuove tecnologie e dalle esigenze ecologiche. Dapprima viene esposta la nascita del concetto di sicurezza della navigazione a livello storico, per poi passare all’analisi dei classici concetti di Safety e Security attraverso le più importanti convenzioni internazionali e interventi delle relative organizzazioni, prima fra tutte l’IMO. Successivamente viene posta l'attenzione sul nuovo concetto di Cybersecurity e Cyberdifesa: partendo dal reato di pirateria ed alla conseguente evoluzione in pirateria informatica, vengono chiarite le principali tecniche di attacco cyber e le strategie per fronteggiarlo, dalle più comuni che toccano il normale utente, alle più sofisticate riguardanti tecnici esperti. L’argomento, attraverso l’enunciazione dei casi più noti, viene poi calato nella dimensione marittima, spiegando le implicazioni che questa nuova frontiera ha avuto sulla regolamentazione in tema di sicurezza. Infine, viene analizzata la progressiva affermazione nel tempo del giovane concetto di sviluppo sostenibile e le relative applicazioni nel settore marittimo anche alla luce dei nuovi prossimi obbiettivi ambientali.

The paper deals with the concept of Safety of Navigation and its evolution in the light of the challenges posed by new technologies and ecological needs. First, the birth of the concept of safety of navigation at a historical level is explained, then move on to the analysis of the classic concepts of Safety and Security through the most important international conventions and interventions of the relevant organizations, first of all the IMO. Attention is then focused on the new concept of Cybersecurity and Cyberdefense: starting from the crime of piracy and its evolution in hacking, are clarified the main techniques of cyber attack and strategies to deal with it, from the most common that touch the normal user, to the most sophisticated regarding experienced technicians. The argument, through the enunciation of the more known cases, comes then descent in the marine dimension, explaining the implications that this new frontier has had on the regulations in topic of safety. Finally, it analyzes the progressive affirmation over time of the young concept of sustainable development and its applications in the maritime sector also in the light of new environmental objectives.
