La presencia hispanoamericana en Estados Unidos es un hecho consolidado desde hace siglos, a partir de las primeras colonizaciones, pasando por las cuestiones fronterizas, hasta llegar a las migraciones que siguen caracterizándolos actualmente. El componente latino no puede sino tener consecuencias a nivel lingüístico, convirtiendo los EEUU en un país con una importante presencia de hispanohablantes y bilingües, capaces de dominar la lengua de sus origenes y de la sociedad de la que forman parte. Pese a los pronósticos de una ulterior difusión de la lengua española en los EEUU, su gestión aún resulta ser incierta, sin duda desigual, a menudo obstaculizada por movimientos como el English-Only Movement. No obstante, los Estados Unidos son el país que más frecuentemente ha manifestado el patente contacto entre español e inglés mediante el spanglish, un fenómeno de alternancia lingüística que ha generado, desde la acuñación del término, debates y críticas debido a su particular naturaleza. Rápidamente, el spanglish pasó de ser una lengua de barrio a ser una lengua de tendencia, cada vez con mayor frecuencia empleada en los medios de comunicación gracias a las tecnologías desarrolladas durante el nuevo milenio. Con el intento de analizar el cumplimiento de los rasgos del spanglish y comprender, en una perspectiva pragmática, las circunstancias en las que se emplea en textos que, por sus naturaleza, son el producto de una precisa planificación, se creó y analizó una muestra de extractos procedientes de revistas y periódicos en línea de los EEUU.
The Hispanic presence in the United States is a well-established fact since centuries, starting from the first colonization, passing through border issues, up to the migrations that characterizes it still nowadays. The Latin component cannot but have linguistic consequences, making the USA a nation with a high number of Spanish-speakers and bilingual people, capable of speaking both the language of their origins and of the society they are part of. Despite the predictions of a further spread of the Spanish language in the USA, its management is still unsure, without any doubt not homogeneous, very often obstructed by movements like the English-Only movement. Nevertheless, the United States are the nation that more often has showed the obvious contact between Spanish and English, Spanglish, a phenomenon of code switching which produced debates and critics because of its nature. Quickly, Spanglish went from being a slang to being a fashionable language, more and more often used in mass media thanks to the technologies spread in the last millennium. With the aim of analysing the adherence to the characters of Spanglish and comprehend, in a pragmatic perspective, the circumstances under which it is used in texts that, by nature, are the product of a careful planning, a sample of examples extracted from online American magazines and newspapers has been collected and analysed.
