Lo studio prende in esame la questione del confine orientale nella prima metà del Novecento e lo fa attraverso un percorso sia di tipo storiografico che giornalistico. Primo obiettivo del lavoro è scoprire ed analizzare quali furono le cause dei profondi dissidi che caratterizzarono i rapporti tra gli italiani e gli slavi della Venezia Giulia in primis, ma anche dell’Istria e della Dalmazia. Il fascismo coprì, a questo proposito, un ruolo fondamentale. Il processo di snazionalizzazione portato avanti dal regime e le condizioni di vita che gli slavi furono costretti a sopportare sotto di esso fornirono infatti un valido movente alla futura Jugoslavia di Tito, che riservò agli italiani un trattamento analogo a quello ricevuto in passato e che sfociò infine nel Grande Esodo.
Per comprendere al meglio il clima del periodo sono stati utilizzati articoli dei giornali più influenti, in modo particolare del Corriere della Sera. A tal proposito, quindi, si è reso necessario introdurre la storia del giornalismo in generale e del quotidiano nello specifico. La popolazione italiana del secondo dopoguerra era a conoscenza della situazione in cui verteva il proprio confine orientale? È esattamente la domanda a cui, tramite le grandi firme del Corriere dell’epoca, proveremo a dare una risposata.

The study examines the issue of the eastern border in the first half of the twentieth century and it does so through both a historiographical and journalistic path. The first goal of the work is to discover and analyze what were the causes of the profound disagreements that characterized the relations between the Italians and the Slavs of Venezia Giulia, Istria and Dalmatia. Fascism played a fundamental role in this regard. The process of denationalization carried out by the regime and the life conditions that the Slavs were forced to endure under it provided a valid motive for Tito's future Yugoslavia, who reserved for the Italians a treatment similar to that received in the past and which ultimately resulted in the Great Exodus.
To better understand the climate of the period, articles from the most influential newspapers were used, in particular the Corriere della Sera. In this regard, therefore, it was necessary to introduce the history of journalism in general and of the newspaper in particular. Was the Italian population after World War II aware of the situation in which its eastern border was concerned? This is exactly the question to which, through the big names of the Corriere, I will try to give an answer.
