Riassunto
The focus of this master thesis is the description and analysis of a series of CLT technology experiments that have been carried out in Japan during the year 2014.
The tests were conducted in collaboration with the Tokyo University, the Kyoto University, the Utsonomya University and the company “Nihon Sekkei System”. The experiments took place between September 16th and October 1st at the Building Research Institute (B.R.I) in Tsukuba (Ibaraki prefecture), Japan.
The research work includes experimental investigation on CLT wall panels subjected to lateral load and the development of a FE model in order to support the experimental results.
The whole work can be summarizes in the following steps.
a) Experimental tests:
• Performance of lateral loading tests on four types of cross-laminated shear wall systems with openings.
• Evaluation and analysis of the behaviour of the panels under cyclic loading. Investigation of the influence of wood and connection parameters on the global performance.
b) Numerical analyses:
• Implementation of a finite element (FE) numerical model with shell elements representing the cross-lam panel and multi-linear springs representing the behaviour of the connections and boundary conditions.
• Comparison of numerical models with the experimental results of X-lam wall tests.
